Pack Hike Reminder and Information
Essentials to bring on the pack hike:
Layers of clothing for the weather (currently partly cloudy with high of 66)
Long lightweight pants (protect from bugs, poison ivy or general scrapes and scratches from walking in the woods)
Hiking boots or trail shoes that can get dirty with comfortable socks (it might be muddy in spots)
Bug spray that can be effective on clothes is recommended (with deet) to protect from ticks.
Water bottle: filled and large enough to last the hike.
Trail food: easy to carry and eat while walking. No big mess or lots of trash, as we have to carry everything with us.
Sun protection: sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater and a hat (not a lot of sun in the woods, but there will be a few sunny spots along the way)
We will be meeting at Potomac Crossing Park. There is a good amount of parking, but if we run out of parking, you can park at Balls Bluff elementary school and shuttle to the park.
For those who want to drop off, please make certain there is an adult attending from your den. Dropping off is OK, but need to make certain everyone is accounted for and part of a hiking group.
We will be doing a 3.5 to 4 mile hike with a 2.0 mile shorter loop back for anyone that can't handle the longer hike. That said, my 5 year old did an extended version of this hike (4.7 miles) in the fall without a problem.
